Back in 1956 Hong Kong Baptist University was a bold start-up, a private higher education institute born from nothing, save the funding support from the Baptist Convention plus the passion of a group of Chinese and American Christian educators. Like all start-ups, we encountered huge challenges in the early days, but for the last 60 years we constantly innovated, reinvigorated, and renewed. And so we succeeded, gaining an enviable reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community around us and beyond. Today, HKBU is widely recognised for its distinctive education that prepares young people with the innovative impulse and creative thinking that the 21st century demands, and balances academic excellence with the development of the whole person. To sustain our success, we have to be future-ready. Our students have to be future-ready. This is why we set out a 10-year strategic plan to take us to new heights as a research-led liberal arts institution of global significance.
