Harbin Lumber Overview

Harbin Lumber Company, Inc. began operation in 1917 with two brothers, Frank Harbin Sr. and John Harbin. John Harbin left the business at an early age, and Frank Harbin, Sr. worked in the business until his death in 1950. During the Depression the company took the bold step of building a new lumber yard in Royston, GA., and it was during this time that Frank Harbin, Jr. began his training in the lumber business as a young boy. After school, one of his first jobs was to pick up nails that were dropped by the carpenters that were constructing the new building in Royston. This building still stands today on the very edge of Royston. Frank Harbin, Jr. began working full time in the lumber business in 1945 following his service in the Canadian Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired in 1982 after 37 years as president of Harbin Lumber Company. Frank Harbin, Jr.'s son, Barron Harbin, began working for the company in 1972. During his tenure as president, HLC experienced tremendous growth by adding multiple locations and expanding our markets throughout Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Barron Harbin retired from active management after 38 years with the company. Harbin looks to the future as Barron's son, Westley Harbin, to take over the business. As we exceed our 100th year of business, we are both proud and humble to recognize that only 3% of businesses make it to the 4th generation of family ownership, and we are confident in our continued success as the next generation begins its leadership. Harbin Lumber presently serves contractors and builders in residential, commercial, multi-family, agriculture, and remodel construction throughout GA, SC and NC. We presently have full service lumber yards located in Lavonia, Eatonton, and Athens, GA, North Augusta, SC and most recently, Clinton, SC. Additionally, our Door Shop, Installation Center and Truss Plant (Load Star Structural Wood Systems) are located in Lavonia.
