Energex Limited (Energex) and its predecessor organisations have provided electricity to homes and businesses in South East Queensland since the late 19th Century. Energex itself was formed in 1997 to replace the South East Queensland Electricity Board (SEQEB) and until 2007 the company not only distributed electricity but also reticulated and sold gas and electricity products. The gas and electricity retail businesses and gas reticulation network were sold in 2006/07 prior to the commencement of full retail gas and electricity contestability in July 2007. Now we distribute electricity to more than 1.4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a population base of around 3.2 million in South East Queensland. At the core of the business are high performing total assets worth more than $11.9 billion, the expertise of our people and a drive to provide customers with energy solutions that are economically, socially and environmentally acceptable and sustainable. This is underpinned by technological innovation and advanced management systems which drive efficiency, quality and safety. We have a strong reputation for our network asset management capabilities including specialised engineering services and metering applications.
