Aurora Expeditions Overview
Aurora Expeditions is an Australian-owned company specialising in small-group adventure travel experiences to the Polar Regions and other wild and remote destinations. Unlike ‘standard’ travel companies, Aurora Expeditions specialises in destinations off the beaten track. So far off in fact, that often there is no track! As a world leader in expedition-style travel, we offer passengers the chance to have an intimate experience of the destination, with the support of expert guides and flexible, innovative itineraries.
Founded by renowned mountaineer and explorer, Greg Mortimer, and his wife Margaret. On 3 October 1984, Greg Mortimer and his expedition partner Tim Macartney-Snape became the first two Australians to reach the summit of Mt Everest, and even more impressively – they did so without the aid of supplementary oxygen! Greg and Margaret have always had a passion for adventure, exploring wild places and sharing the experience with friends so in 1991, Aurora Expeditions was born.
From the start, Aurora Expeditions was destined to be different. Over the past 27 years it has become the leader in small-group, expedition-style travel to polar regions and other wild places. Aurora Expeditions aim is simple - to take small groups of travellers on voyages of discovery to regions that inspired them, thereby creating lifelong ambassadors for the preservation and protection of these sacred places. From the European Arctic to Antarctica, the Russian Arctic to Patagonia or, discover why we were voted #1 for best itineraries in 2018 by Cruise Critic.
In October 2019, Aurora Expeditions’ new state of the art expedition ship, the Greg Mortimer, will set sail on its maiden voyage to the Antarctic Peninsula. With more ships to come Aurora Expeditions is growing immensely.
